Mini Toolbox
A toddler-sized toolbox
I had a few days of free time, and I've been wanting to use my steam bending setup again, so I took on this small project. At the time of its making, it's a great size for our toddler. He loves collecting small things - similarly shaped rocks, markers, water flavoring packets, and other things. I thought he'd enjoy something like this for carrying many collectibles at once.
The sides are made out of maple and they're joined with hand cut dovetails. The bottom and handle are red oak. To get the tight curve in the handle piece, I used steam bending. My first attempt cracked the material, so making it a bit thinner worked on the second try. After the wood was bent, I added the supporting part of the handle which adds a lot of strength and makes the handle a bit more ergonomic.
